The construction of Chiryurtovskaya HPP began in 1954. It was carried out by the Sulakgesstroy team, which was reorganized into the Construction Directorate ChirkeiGESstroy.

The Chiryurtovskaya Hydro dam is of rolled-earth till type. It consists of a clay nucleus and gravel-pebble outer toes. Its height is 37.5 m; crest length is 43 m; top width is 10 m. The hydraulic power system is of an appurtenance-diversion type.
